Sunday was St. Barbara's Day

This feast has a lot of significance for me. Barbara is my mother's name, and the name of my sister who died in 2008. She had been received into the Holy Orthodox Church one year before, on the eve of the Feast of St. Barbara.

St. Barbara is also (at least in the West, not sure about in Orthodoxy) the patron saint of the artillery, and my father was an artilleryman, so I think of him, too, on the Feast of St. Barbara.

Memory Eternal to them, and Many Years to all of you named Barbara!

I pray to St. Barbara to watch over my children - my daughter and son-in-law who is a field artillery officer now in Germany after having served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
