It has not been a good week in our family. First there was the memorial service for my dear Aunt Audrey, up in Michigan. Then a niece had to put down both of her aged dogs the same day. Then the infant child of my sister's dear friend suddenly died, probably of SIDS. Today we have lost a long-time family friend, Clyde Friar, who lived in Hawaii. I've known him since I was in high school. My sister Wendy was once upon a time in love with his son Larry, and both families at one time hoped that relationship would blossom into marriage; but Larry died young in a car wreck...
As if all that weren't more than enough, yesterday ARK split right in half. What's ARK, you ask? Area Rehabbers Klub, the wildlife rehabilitation organization with which I'm affiliated. Friction among the members, I'm told, but I don't know what friction. The entire board resigned, both from the board and from ARK altogether; that's most of our most experienced rehabbers. Thing is, we can't really do the job well without one another. C'mon ladies (and gentleman)! Can't we forget everything else except caring for our feathered and furred babies???
We went to see the movie, Jane Eyre tonight. Unsurprisingly, I cried a lot, especially at the end.
What was surprising is, Demetrios liked it as much as I did. He said it was the best movie we'd been to in years and years, with the best acting, too.
I hope you go see it; bring some tissue if you do. You probably won't be as prone to cry as I was, but it's still what my dad used to call a six-kleenex film.
