Ever in search of blood, the Dread Kounoupi has been preying upon the Greeks, killing 30 people so far this year. We all close our windows and/or shutters as soon as the daylight fades.
And what is this much-feared beast? The mosquito, carrying West Nile Encephalitis.
The danger is seasonal, and we hope the season is either over or soon will be.

Scary stuff. Many years ago the zanzari in Florence had an extra hard bite at my mum and she fainted at breakfast. West Nile virus was what the American doctor said on the phone. Thank God there was no Google in these days and I didn't know what he meant. And mum was okay - just overwrought.
Yet another reason to be glad you have that option to shut your windows.
